Erythema Migrans

Generic Name:
Bull's Eye Rash
Alternate Name:
Erythema chronicum migrans
Definition:
A "bull's eye rash" is correctly named an Erythema Migrans skin rash. The photo to the right shows how this rash typically appears. Recent research shows that only a portion of people that are infected with Lyme develop any kind of rash, and few still, under <10% exhibit an Erythema Migrans skin rash ("Bull's Eye rash").
The rash is a skin infection resulting from Lyme bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato.
